TODAY: What female performance ranks as your favorite?
Okay, maybe these prompts weren’t so difficult after all. Gene Wilder and now Frances McDormand from Fargo. I remember not being all that into this film when I first saw it, finally “getting it” a few years later and a few years removed from all those crazy accents I was living amidst (yes, I’m originally from Fargo, ND). Now this film ranks as perhaps my favorite from the Coen Brothers, with McDormand’s performance being the key deciding factor. She’s beyond brilliant in this and best captures the nuance of some of the more eclectic variations on “our” accents. Everyone else just borders on caricature.
Embedded below is a good sampling of the genius that’s Marge Gunderson.
